*1977, Switzerland Loan Nguyen captures in her photographs the formal colour arrangements of different places and rooms. The photographs are not intended to be an objective documentation of the space itself, but rather an emotional documentation of being in the space. Nguyen utilises light and colour to give a new dimension to an otherwise empty or insignificant space. Unlike Cindy Sherman or Elina Brotherus, who used themselves as a center of attention, Nguyen incorporates herself with specific gesture or pose into the images to highlight the aesthetic and emotional quality of the space. When viewers look at Nguyen’s photographs, they will notice the artist’s presence, but their attention will be centrally focused on the special atmosphere of the location.
